This week Windermere joins other OCPS high school to participate in World Heart Day! This district wide initiative partners with local emergency responders to teach our students life saving strategies, first aid, and basic CPR in cases of emergency. The event takes place on Tuesday, February 10. Select grade levels will participate, and you may see additional emergency vehicles on campus as a result.
Please join us on Monday, February 9 for our regularly scheduled SAC meeting at 5:00 PM in the media center followed by a general PTSO meeting at 5:30 PM. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. Additionally, please join us for our Winter Sports Pep Rally in the gym starting at 6:00 PM. This is a wonderful event where we celebrate our athletes and coaches!
We have seen an increase in student tardies to class. As a result, we will implement random tardy sweeps beginning this week. Students who are caught in a tardy sweep could face additional consequences as a result. Please be sure to speak with your child about the importance of being on time to class, every period, every day.
Two quick calendar reminders; Monday, February 16, is Presidents Day! There is no school on this day. Additionally, our next Resiliency Day is scheduled for Thursday, February 19. We will operate on a modified schedule (below) in order to complete the state mandated curriculum. Please plan accordingly.
With state testing quickly approaching, it is important that students have a functional school issued device. If your student uses a personal device, but has a school issued device at home, we ask that students bring the OCPS device to school once a week to restart on campus. This will help ensure the proper updates are installed and prevent any delays on testing days. It will also help students know their device is functioning correctly. We have limited devices in reserve so it’s important that students ensure their device is working correctly by testing it weekly.
Parents, we need your help. We have seen an increase in students being dropped off on 535 and in the turn lanes into the school. Not only is this dangerous, but it is impeding traffic while preventing cars from being able to turn into the school. I understand that we are all busy in the morning, however, we need to follow safe arrival practices to ensure students are not put in harms way and traffic can flow unimpeded. Please help us by only dropping off between at the designated student drop off location.
As always, please be sure to regularly check our website and Facebook page for important updates.
Sincerely,
Mr. Leftakis
Principal, Windermere High School
